Zim Warrior tastes defeat

LILONGWE - Zimbabwean Rahman Gumbo, a former warrior with the Zimbabwean soccer national team now coaching one of Malawi's leading soccer clubs, MTL Wanderers, recently tasted the first pain of defeat since he started coaching the club.
Gumbo and his club have been enjoying su

premacy in Malawian soccer in the country’s top soccer tournament, the K50 million Super League, sponsored by South Africa’s Wireless Group, ECONET through its agents Telekon Network Malawi (TNM).
Gumbo’s team lost 2-1 to Cobbe Barracks in Zomba, Southern Malawi. Gumbo admitted that the soldiers were far better than his wandering boys after.
“Cobbe were a better side than us and I have always said that we are going to lose a game at some point,” said Gumbo.
The Zimbabwean also partly blamed the assignments of Falmes (Malawi’s national team) that have been routinely robbing his club’s players and others from other clubs to play in the national side.
Meanwhile, Wanderers’ loss to Cobbe Barracks means they are no longer enjoying a skip and jump away chance of clinching the Super League. Wanderers’ vocal assistant team manager Robin Alufandika admitted that his club’s loss to Cobbe Barracks had paid a heavy price and would have a very tough time if they were to grab the league’s title.
“Following our loss to Cobbe Barracks we have a mountain to climb. We are no longer in the comfort zone now, as the situation is, we cannot afford to drop
points in the remaining fixtures,”said Alufandika, adding, “We paid the price for complacency, we probably thought it would be a stroll in the park. We were
wrong.”
