To date, DeMbare has gone for more than seven years without winning the premiership title, as this has become the preserve for CAPS United and Highlanders football clubs respectively.
Dynamos, is Zimbabwe’s most followed and supported premiership club with an estimated more than seven million followers. Bulawayo-based Highlanders is the second followed by Masvingo United and CAPS United.
The Harare based soccer giants dominated the Zimbabwean football during 1980s and 90s when Bosso took over the reigns as premiership champions.
Highlanders went on to win the premiership title for four consecutive years before CAPS United won for two consecutive years.
The current recruiting exercise at Dembare is aimed at reviving the club as a dominating force.
Meanwhile, Dynamos have been fined a record Z$3 million and ordered to play in an empty stadium following trouble in the terraces during their Premier Soccer League
match against Shooting Stars on 17 December last year.
Shooting Stars, who were awarded the match, which was stopped in the 60th minute on a 2-0 scoreline, were fined $1 million after their striker Prince Mbara was found guilty of indecently gesticulating to Dynamos fans who were sitting in the eastern stand of the stadium.
PSL secretary-general Kennedy Ndebele, said the disciplinary committee had found Dynamos guilty of failing to control their fans resulting in the abandonment of the match and wanton destruction of property.
“This behaviour can not be tolerated from a club which is held in high esteem not only in Zimbabwe but in Africa,” he said. – CAJ News
