Energy Murambadoro loses interest in soccer (5-02-07
HARARE
Warriors’ goalkeeper, Energy Murambadoro is reported to be losing interest in the game of soccer follow
The huge goal-minder is in the country and The Zimbabwean has established that he is engaged in some “dealing of a number of items” according to a source very close to the former local soccer star.
“He is doing a number of deals and seems to be losing interest in soccer,” the source said. “He recently bemoaned the little money he was getting from soccer as compared to what he was getting from dealing”
Murambadoro has over the past couple of weeks repeatedly promised to grant this reporter an opportunity to discuss his plans. “There are plans and I will be making some move. We will arrange to discuss and I will give you the story,” he recently said.
The 25 year-old goalie had the highlight of his career when he starred for the Warriors at their maiden appearance at the African Cup of Nations finals in Tunisia in 2004. A fairly impressive performance at those finals earned him some international recognition and he was to follow it up with a move to an Israeli club, the deal of which he however had to abandon in a huff citing security concerns in the war-torn country.
He made several bids to impress managers at clubs in England and Belgium but failed to make the grade.
Nicknamed Gokwe after his rural home from where he started his career, he later joined low-profile South African club, Benoni Stars where he didn’t make any significant headlines thereby effectively taking away the steam from his promising career.
The scenario has seen Murambadoro gradually lose his number one jersey at the Warriors, from which he was excluded for the friendly match against Lesotho this week.
Some sources have said he might be considering turning out for his former local club, Caps United, which brought him to fame.
