Hat-trick brings win
HARARE – Mwana Africa’s midfield sensation Tawanda Mareya scored a
hat-trick to finish off Mundu SC of Zanzibar 6-1 in the Caf Confederation Cup tournament on Sunday.
The Zimbabwean team will now meet Angolan side Interclube in the first round
next month.


Draw won’t deter squad
HARARE – Under-23 coach Misheck Chidzambwa is confident of advancing to the next round of the 2008 Olympic Games qualifiers despite a 1-1 draw to Cameroon at Rufaro Stadium last week “We were let down by poor shooting from our strikers. Star eyes Springbok jersey
HARARE – SA-based rugby player Tendayi Chikukwa has revealed he is eyeing a Springbok jersey and will not be available for the squad preparing for the IRB Under-19 World Cup, the Zimbabwe team manager Mzi Nyathi has confirmed.
The Under-19 championship will be held in Ireland from 4-21 April.
Chikukwa is a student at Pretoria Boys High School and recently signed a contract with the Vodacom Blue Bulls Under 19 squad.
Chikukwa and Ryan Manyika were the only two foreign-based players called to beef up the Zimbabwe squad. Manyika, attending Brighton College in the UK, is set to join the squad next month. – Sports Reporter


US honours hockey gals
UNITED STATES – Zimbabwean senior hockey players Rudo Mawema and Jacquelin Katanesksza have been named on the US’s Patriotic League Roll of Honour, following their outstanding performances on the field.
In order to be nominated for this honour, the student-athlete must carry a semester grade point average of 3,20 or higher. Kataneksza, a former Arundel student, scored 3,35 points while Rudo Mawema, scored 3,22 points. – Sports Reporter


Games squad gathered
HARARE – US-based Elija Moyo has been included in the squad for the joint preliminaries of the 2007 All-Africa Games and the Africa Cup of Nations, to be played later this month. Also in the team are Namibian-based Mpumelelo Hlabangani and Brian Hore. – Own Correspondent


Price despairs over form
FLORIDA – Former world number one golfer Nick Price is considering quitting if he cannot overcome the poor form he has experienced in the last two years.
The Zimbabwean, who won 18 times on the Professional Golfers Association Tour and another 24 events worldwide, admitted he has had a terrible time since 2005.
Quoted on the Southern Africa PGA tour (Sunshine Tour) website, Price said 2005 and 2006 were the most difficult in his 20-year career. – Sports Reporter
