YOUNG Warriors linkman Carrington Gomba allegedly quietly sneaked out of the country on Monday for allegedly unsanctioned trials at South African Premier Soccer League outfit Moroka Swallows.

Impeccable sources close to the player revealed that newly appointed Moroka Swallows coach and former Dynamos and Black Rhinos player, Ian ‘Dibango’ Gorowa had lured Gomba to that country.

Gomba tried his luck at Ajax Cape Town in January this year where Gorowa was assistant coach. However, the 22-year-old player failed to make the grade after a two-week trial stint.

“Carrington (Gomba) stayed behind after the friendly against Highlanders but no one knows where he is. The club officials are still puzzled because he was supposed to report for training on Tuesday but he has not showed up,” said a source.

“But I’m told he has gone to South Africa. Ian Gorowa has always wanted him so he could be going to his (Gorowa’s) new club Moroka Swallows,” said the source.

When CAJ rang Gomba’s mobile phone, the woman who answered it confirmed that the player left for South Africa on Monday. However, she denied that Gomba’s visit had “anything to do with Gorowa or football”.’

“He (Carrington) is not here. He went to South Africa on personal business,” she said.

Hwange Football Club spokesperson Burzil Dube confirmed that the Warriors fringe player had gone AWOL, as he had not returned to Hwange after last week’s friendly match against Highlanders.

“I was just talking to the coach (Nation Dube) [on Friday]. We all don’t know where he is. I am told that soon after the Highlanders game he never came back with the rest of the team after he asked to be excused,’” said Dube.

“We have not received any official communication from him and we are all worried,” added Dube. He professed ignorance on Gomba’s trip to South Africa.

The young midfielder is still a Hwange player, as he has a running contract with the club until 2009.
