The side is coached by Bright Chivandire who is convinced that his charges will do well at the tournament, as there are a number of players who have taken part in the same competition before.
“There are quite a number of players who have taken part at a tournament of such magnitude because some of them played in last year’s qualifiers, went on to the World Cup and are now back again for the qualifiers.”
Zimbabwe will face Tunisia in the opening game in Kampala and Chivandire is confident that his charges will overcome the North Africans.
Zimbabwe are in a tough Group A where they will also take on Namibia and Morocco with the winners of the group, based on final log standings, proceeding to the World Championship next year.
“I believe in the boys and the good thing is that the boys have also got the same spirit and they are prepared for the tournament and are surely looking positive.
“They (the players) have put so much effort in their preparations and I believe we will make it because the boys are so talented and there is nothing that beats a combination of enthusiasm and talent,” said Chivandire.
The Young Sables, captained by Tich Makwanya, will have their last training session this morning before their departure for the tournament.
The side will depart from the Harare International Airport at 8am tomorrow and embark on a 12-hour journey and are expected to land in Kampala at 8pm — the night before their opening game against Tunisia.
“The preparations have been going on well though there have been a bit of complications here and there because the boys have been writing examinations.
“There was not enough time altogether but it was good that we, at least, managed to have training sessions in the evening when all the players would have finished writing their morning or afternoon examinations.
“We had two training sessions since Monday from 8 to 10 in the morning while the other one was set for 3 to 5 in the evening and depending on the time the players had an examination, they had a chance to attend one of the sessions,” said Chivandire.
Some of the players that took part in the previous qualifiers include Makwanya, Farai Mapunde, Tinashe Bopoto and Sean Neil.
