ive of Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, confirmed the plan.
“We have agreed terms with Koufie. We have sent him his air ticket and we expect him in the country on 1 September. He will impart his knowledge to local football,” Mutsauki said.
The world soccer governing body FIFA recently appointed Koufie to implement this ambitious project, which will be funded by Olympic Solidarity through the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, with ZIFA being the implementing partner and beneficiary.
The proposal presented to Olympic Solidarity in April this year focused on a grassroots national football development programme, senior national team strategic plan and the development of training manuals for coaches, administrators, referees and sports medicine practitioners.
Koufie will be expected to work closely with the ZIFA technical director, who would then continue with the programme after his departure on completion of the three-month project.
Koufie has had bittersweet relationship with the ZIFA and was reportedly fired in 1991.
Angry at the Zimbabwe Football Association’s lack of planning, an angry Koufie suggested that ‘not even a coach from the moon’ would help the national team, the Warriors to qualify for any major tournament, under those circumstances. – CAJ News
