Bosso fans bay for blood

Mass fury as 4-1 defeat leaves Premiership hopes dangling on thread

BULAWAYO - Highlanders fans are baying for coach Methembe Ndlovu's blood, after the defending league champions succumbed to probably their worst home defeat in more than a decade - going down 1-4 to a Mtshumay

eli Moyo-inspired Shooting Stars at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
With the defeat, their heaviest for this season, the Bulawayo giants look set to surrender the CBZ Premier Soccer League championship to their bitter on-fire rivals Dynamos, who beat Lengthens 2-1 on the same day.
Pacesetters Dembare have now opened a comfortable five-point lead at the top of the log standings, being followed by Bosso and Masvingo United, who are themselves separated by three goals.
A brace by Clive Mwale (36th and 56th minute), Leo Kurauzvione (41st) and the dreadlocked Moyo (54th), were enough to sap the energy out of the usually vociferous Bosso fans, who are now calling for the former United States-based coach’s head.
“He is a former player of the club and should know that Highlanders is an institution which means a lot to us Bulawayans – not an American college team. The executive should fire him immediately and recall the tried-and-tested Rahman Gumbo or Eddie May,” said Mehluli Siziba of Nkulumane.
Ndlovu brought Bosso their first league triumph in four years, when his charges steamrolled past all and sundry to win Bosso’s 10 matches. He also completed a double over Dynamos, who they beat 2-1 and 1-0 at Barbourfields and Harare respectively. He has also been called to the podium to collect the coach of the season award in his maiden season in the PSL.
However, fans are not looking into that, as they say that he inherited a well-oiled machine built by Madinda Ndlovu.
After the loss of star players, like the gritty and gifted Honour Gombami, the speedy and determined Vusa Nyoni (both to Cercle Brugge in Belgium), the agile and inspirational Tapuwa Kapini (Platinum Stars, SA), and the deadly Ralph Matema (Orlando Pirates, SA), Bosso beefed up their squad with an equally fantastic Wellington Sibanda, tricky Givemore Manuella, dependable Washington Arubi, Ricky Sibiya and Thabani Moyo. But the results have failed to come their way, especially at this crucial stage.
“Methembe’s current team is better than the one he found here last year, but he has failed to deliver and should go. He is very stubborn and has stuck to his useless formation that is also very boring to watch. He also has favouritism and chooses players because they are close to him, not on merit. We pay to watch this team but if this continues, we will stay and home and see who will pay his salary,” fumed Trsu Mabhena of Njube.
The fans complained that Ndlovu overlooks players that impress at training in favour of those like Mkhuphali Masuku (believed to be his father-in law), despite their loss of form.
Ndlovu has also fielded players like tearaway striker Obadiah Tarumbwa off-position and that has seen Bosso fail to play their usual flowing football.
However, club chairman, Enerst ‘Maphepha’ Sibanda, though confirming that things were not going well for the club, said the executive still had faith in Ndlovu.
“We will meet to map the way forward this week but, all in all, we still have faith in the technical department. Supporters should also not throw in the towel so early because we are still in with a chance. They should support the boys and that way they will deliver,” said Sibanda.
Late last year, when things were not going well for the Bulawayo giants, there were allegations that an assistant coach at the club was receiving bribes from certain under-performing players, who were being fielded at the expense of those that played better.
The executive also met and the issue was ironed out. This saw Bosso reclaim the league championship they had lost to Amazulu in 2002.
