Black and Huber had won the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Russia, the previous Saturday.
The two, who were the top seeds, were upset by the unseeded pair of American Lisa Raymond and Francesca Schiavone of Italy.
For reaching the last four places of the US$1,34 million tournament in Zurich, Black and Huber received US$15,760.
The spectators at the Hallenstadion Zürich were certainly not left disappointed by what ensued, as Raymond and Schiavone ground out a thrilling 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 triumph, thus booking a place in the final against Czech Republic’s Kveta Peschke and Rennae Stubbs of Australia.
It was indeed a black week for Zimbabwe tennis, after another top doubles ace, Kevin Ullyett, and his Australian partner Paul Hanley lost in the second round of the Madrid Masters in Spain at the weekend.
Seeded third at the indoor tournament, Ullyett and Hanley went down to the unseeded Argentine pair of Guillermo Canas and David Nalbandian, who beat them in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Ullyett and Hanley received 6 400 euros.
