PRETORIA – Swallows coach Ian Gorowa has played down talk that he is under pressure at the club following The Birds' dismal performance of late.
Thi

s is despite his short-term target, of clinching two domestic cups in his maiden season, going up in smoke over the weekend.
The former Zimbabwe international winger’s plans collapsed like a deck of cards when highflying Kaizer Chiefs bundled his charges out of the multimillion-rand Telkom Knockout at the first hurdle.
In the process, the team, which started like a house on fire this season but has disappointed lately, slumped to its second successive defeat.
The coach, who has on some occasions been booed by the team’s supporters, insists the team’s fortunes will change sooner rather than later and he does not see anything problematical in the team’s form.
“I think we need to improve by huge leaps, but I certainly don’t think I’m under any pressure,” Gorowa told the club’s website.
Swallows fell by the wayside in dramatic fashion in this thrill-a-minute encounter at Loftus on Saturday evening, that Chiefs won 3-1 on penalties.
Giant striker Sandile Ndlovu equalized right at the death to cancel out Shaun Bartlett’s opener and force the game into extra time.
Chiefs thought they had bagged it through Kaizer Motaung’s likely winner but Swallows had scoring answers in the form of James Chamanga, who forced the game into the dreaded shootout.
The Dube Birds have not had the best of starts in the 2007/08 Absa Premier League and are currently placed 10th after winning only one of the five matches played so far.
Elsewhere, team of the moment Bloemfontein Celtic progressed to the second round of the Telkom Knockout in similar fashion when they prevailed 5-4 on penalties after the teams finished one apiece after extra time.
Champions Mamelodi Sundowns failed to lift their game once more and played to a 2-all draw against Thanda Royal Zulu in Kwazulu Natal. It could have been worse had The Brazilians not been awarded a penalty that Lerato Chabangu slotted home in injury time.
