Storm brews over Zifa CEO BULAWAYO - A storm is brewing at the Zimbabwe Football Association after acting Chief Executive Officer Henrietta Rushwaya was on Saturday announced substantive, ahead of the suspended Jonathan Mashingaidze.


Mashingaidze, who was reinstated in a different capacity, last month made it clear that he would not take up any other post other than CEO.

Rushwaya, who has been acting CEO since March when Mashingaidze was suspended following an alleged World Cup ticket scam last year, was appointed at a Zifa board meeting held in Harare.
In an interview with CAJ News on Saturday, Zifa vice chairman Tendai Madzorera confirmed the appointments.

“We are proud to announce that the board members unanimously appointed Rushwaya as the new chief executive officer of the national mother body,” he said.

CAJ News interviewed Rushwaya, who confirmed she had been appointed the new substantive head for the beleaguered Zifa.

“I would propose people work together as one, for us to get results so as to improve the game of soccer in our nation,” she said.

Mashingaidze’s post is yet to be confirmed.
“Jonathan Mashingaidze has been reinstated for a new assignment. which is to be announced in due course,” said Madzorera.

Mashingaidze is likely to be posted to the Zifa village, a Fifa-initiated project.
The same board meeting saw new coaches for all teams except the Warriors being announced.

Warriors coach still sought

THE Zimbabwe Football Association will be appointing the coach for the senior national team in December, it emerged this week.

According to information to hand, Zifa was looking a foreign coach who had insight on local football to fill the vacancy left by Charles Mhlauri.

Although Zifa officials were not forthcoming about possible candidates, The Zimbabwean understand that coaches been chased include David May, Reihnard Fabish and Zambia great
Kalusha Bwalya.

Locals who have been earmarked include Luke Masomere, Bruce Grobbelaar and Roy
Barreto.

Zifa has already announced the appointment of coaches for junior teams and the women’s soccer team, following a board meeting.

Former national team captain Norman Mapeza was appointed to head the Under-23s, while another former national team captain, Moses Chunga, was appointed Mighty Warriors coach.
Zifa also appointed Highlanders mentor Methembe Ndlovu as national Under-20 team coach, while Langton Giwa, Rodwell Dhlakama and Alex Mudirira were appointed Under-20 (women), Under-17 (men) and Under-17 (women) coaches respectively. – Own Correspondent
