Two-cities showdown, as DeMbare and Bosso vie for honours

BY SAVIOUS KWINIKA, CAJ NEWS - IT IS official! The country's two biggest and best-supported clubs, archrivals Dynamos and Highlanders, will lock horns in a dream FA Cup final.

The duel will take place at a venue and date to be announced by the tournament sponsors.
Yes, it is DeMbare, from the capital city of Harare, whilst Bosso will be defending the footballing pride of the country’s second-largest city Bulawayo, known as the City of Kings.

The final presents not only an opportunity for these clubs to prove who-is-who in football, but also to prove which of the two cities deserves honour.

Encounters pitting Dynamos and Highlanders usually present business opportunities for some, but, for police, the huge headache of containing usually unruly crowds.

The FA Cup final is indeed what the nation has been waiting for, and has been made more mouth-watering by the fact that it is a Dynamos/Highlanders affair.

Even in Johannesburg, whenever one goes to a public place in Hillbrow, Soweto, Braamfontein, Randburg and Alexandra, the final is the talk of the town although here and there tribalism rears its ugly head.
In this final, we do not expect the clubs’ supporters to exchange blows or engage in any form of violence as football throughout the world has become big business, a sport that creates friendships, a sport that unites nations across tribe, colour, race or region. Above all, football brings peace, tranquillity and stability in the world.

That is why football is called the world’s most beautiful game.

For sure, the Zimbabwean nation cannot afford to wait any longer for the final of this magnitude. The last time the two Zimbabwean soccer giants clashed in a cup final was in 1999.

As the country entered the New Millennium, another powerful footballing club, Masvingo United, emerged as the country’s cup kings, and the Great Zimbabwe soccer outfit dominated the premiership cups in the country for over three years in a row.

United, better known as Asipo Haapo, took over the cup kings title from CAPS United, the then driving force in cup competitions.

Now it is time for Bosso/DeMbare to prove who is king of kings.

Judging by the calibre of players the two clubs have at their camps, another intriguing final is set to bring celebrations in the country and help millions forget about their socio-political and economic woes.
