Zim massacres Comoros

MPUMALANGA -
The Young Warriors have booked themselves a place in the Metropolitan-COSAFA under-20 soccer match following the demolition of Comoros 4-0 in a thrilling encounter played at Thulamahashe Stadium on Monday.

A double by Tafadzwa Rusike (32, 40th) and another brace from Darryl Nyandoro (52nd, 83rd) were enough to propel Zimbabwe into the semi-final of the 14 nation tournament here.

Playing in a sweating heat of above 37 degrees, the Young Warriors started the match on a low pace, but quickly adjusted towards the end of the first half with skilful Rusike combing upfront with Thabani Kamusoko, Ovidy Karuru and Nyandoro to cause anxious moments against the Comoros Islanders.

It came as no surprise when Rusike hammered home from close range after being fed by enterprising Karuru.

Before Comoros could organise their defence, Rusike haunted them with yet another powerful grounder that beat Chamoyine Ahmed all systems out in goals for Comoros.

After the breather, Nyandoro made his presence felt when he fired home two goals in the second half in a move that demoralised the Comoros Islanders.

Zimbabwe’s flawless football earned them much support from the South Africans fans. Had it not been for too much dribbling in the second half, the Young Warriors could have score half a dozen of goals.

Meanwhile, South Africa beat Mauritius 5-0, Zambia massacred Seychelles 7-1, Swaziland and Malawi drew 0-0, Namibia drew 1-1 with Angola.  In another encounter, Botswana beat Lesotho 2-1.
