Cricketers to Malaysia


THE Zimbabwe Under-19 National Cricket team has expressed satisfaction with preparations for the forthcoming World Cup International tie set Malaysia later this month.
Team manager Dillip Chohan says despite the rains preparations are going well for the Zimbabwe Under-19 squad.
He said the team is expected to leave for Malaysia this Saturday.  
The Zimbabwe side will play two warm up matches against Sri Lanka and Nepal before the start of the world cup group matches.
Zimbabwe is slotted in pool a together with hosts Malaysia, defending champions Pakistan and New Zealand.
Zimbabwe play their first match against New Zealand on the 18th of this month and will meet Malaysia two days later.

Forex hampers volleyball
ZIMBABWE’S senior men’s volleyball team called off the trip to South Africa for the 2008 Olympic Games qualifiers which got underway on Sunday due to lack of foreign currency.
The team needed at least US$15 000 needed to take care of the national team’s bare minimum requirements but failed to do so.
Team manager Ringisai Mapondera said: “Right now we are breaking camp. We have failed to get foreign currency despite our spirited appeals to the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
“Minister (Aneas) Chigwedere and others tried their best but the RBZ said they could not help us at the moment. It is very painful for us. We had tried to cut off on some things like players’ allowances and wanted money for registration, food and accommodation which had to be in forex but we failed to raise the amount,” said Mapondera.
Ten other countries managed to send their teams with Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Mozambique and Gabon playing in Pool B while Pool A includes South Africa, Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria and Rwanda.
A fortnight ago the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association failed to raise US$96 000 needed to fly the women’s team to Algeria and the players cried when the sad news was broken to them.
 
Premier League fixtures set
THE 2008 CBZ Premier league roars in to life on March 8 according to fixtures released officially to clubs during by the PSL.
This season games will be suspended for the whole month of June pave way for the Warriors’ uninterrupted campaign in the 2010 World Cup/Nations Cup campaigns.
Zimbabwe will face Kenya, Namibia and Guinea in June ahead of the 2010 Nations Cup finals in Angola and the World Cup finals in South Africa.
PSL fixtures secretary Godfrey Japajapa said the had clubs agreed, from their meeting in Kwekwe, that the league games will be suspended every time the Warriors are in camp, to avoid disadvantaging clubs that will have provided players to the national team.
First game on March 8: CAPS United v Dynamos, Highlanders v Sundowns, Masvingo United v Lengthens, Gunners v Motor Action, Lancashire Steel v Chapungu
