Twin goals take Dynamos through...

HARARE

A goal each from Justice Majabvi and Admire Dzukamanja in the second half were enough to help Dynamos progress to the next round of the Africa Club after beating visiting Swaziland Royal Leopards 2-0 in an encounter played at Gwanzura Stadium on Sunday.

DeMbare, as Dynamos Football Club is commonly known in football circles, came into Sunday’s encounter taking a comfortable 1-0 lead courtesy of a Lazarous Mouhoni header in the first leg of the match played at Somhlolo Stadium in Mbabane, Swaziland two weeks ago.

The timely victory has pushed the Zimbabwean champions into the first round of the 12th edition of the African Champions League in a draw to be conducted this month.

Midfielder Justice Majabvi gave DeMbare the lead from the penalty spot in the 50th minute, whilst new signing Dzukamanja registered his name on the score-sheet with a well drilled goal in the 54th minute.

It was not yet clear by the time of going to press whether Dynamos would face Costa do Sol of Mozambique or Ajesaia of Madagascar. – CAJ News

Decisive win saves Dibango

PRETORIA

Zimbabwe international coach Ian ‘Dibango’ Gorowa survived the chop as Moroka Swallows Head Coach when his South African premiership side massacred Bloemfontein Celtic 3-1 within the space of 10 minutes.

The former Black Rhinos midfielder had been going through a lean spell until midweek, when Swallows hammered defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria.

Speculation was rife in the South African media that the Zimbabwean would lose his top post if failed to win or draw with any premiership team in the remaining matches.

Goals from Malawi international defender Patrick Mabedi, Sandile Ndlovu and Alfred Phiri were enough to give the Dube Birds the three crucial points against the run of play.

Bloemfontien Celtic were the first to settle through Darrel Smith in the 38th minute, but the tempo quickly swung to the Zimbabwean mentor’s beat with ten minutes remaining of regulation time – CAJ News

Bullet grabs a brace

PRETORIA

Former Warriors Captain Peter Ndlovu grabbed a brace when Mamelodi Sundowns hammered visiting Mlembi SC of Zanzibar 4-0 in an Africa Club championship encounter.

Ndlovu, who has rediscovered his lost form that made him a great name in England whilst playing for Coventry City and Sheffield United. came in a super-substitute.

Ndlovu, known as ‘The Bulawayo Bullet’ in South African football circles’ has been scoring in every match he has featured in this season.

If Ndlovu does not lose his form, he is set to win the award for top goal-scoring in South Africa’s ABSA premiership. – CAJ News

King could be crowned with top job

LUSAKA

Zambian Captain Kalusha ‘King Kalu’ Bwalya is set to contest for the Zambian football post.

Bwalya, who was crowned African Footballer of the Year in 1988, has served as Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Vice-President for the last four years and has also helped coach the Chipolopolo senior soccer national team.

Many now believe the time is right for the country’s soccer governing body to honour him with the post of the presidency.

The election for the top post is – coincidentally – set for March 29.

“Running for the presidency is the next step given where I have come from,” said Bwalya. “I feel it is time for me to head the association and implement the ideas I have. My dream is that Zambia should one day be able to go to the World Cup. – CAJ News
