Motor Action beat Monomotapa 1-0 in a CBZ Premier Soccer league match played at Dzivarasekwa last week, to record a second victory.

The victors, who had a rude awakening of a 0-2 defeat at the hands of league debutantes Gunners, in the first week of the premier league, appeared to have done their homework.

Levison Selous was the man who brought honour to the Mighty Bulls 18 minutes into the second half. The chasing efforts of Monomotapa’s Asan Nhongo were not enough to stop a determined Edward Thembo from firing a brilliant cross to Selous, who directed the ball into the nets, much to the delight of the visiting fans.

A compromise of a commendable coach and inexperienced players did not work out very well for Monomotapa, who failed to utilise a number of chances that came their way.

Jecha Kawashu kept Mighty Bulls defender Regis Marere busy the whole of the afternoon, giving an outstanding performance for Monomotapa, despite his efforts at scoring ending in vain.

Mighty Bulls head coach Jostern Matutu is hopeful his charges will take this victory into this weekend’s match against Underhill at Callies Sports Club.

The former Lengthens coach took over the side from the Hungarian coach in the second half of the 2007 premiership league. Despite the 0-2 loss in their opening season match, Matutu is optimistic his charges “will perform far much better this season” after struggling in the relegation zone last year.

“We had all the time to prepare ourselves, the players are mature, experienced and they are quick to understand the concept of the game,” said Matutu.

Unaware of what the opponents are made of, Matutu told The Zimbabwean they “will be taking the game seriously, give it our best and make sure we don’t create ourselves unnecessary pressure at the end.”
