Universities in the country have set up a black market fees structure for the coming semester, demanding what student leaders say are "outrageous figures masquerading as top-up fees".

The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) is asking for Z$13bn from students for tuition and residence fees. National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has asked its students to fork out Z$10bn top-up tuition fees.

Students’ union ZINASU claims the move is calculated to spark off violence and so justify military rule by Robert Mugabe.
