Now that the warriors have done us proud in Guinea, we need a win against Namibia this weekend (today, 8 June) boys. It’s important that we win all our home matches and enforce at least a draw away, just like you did last Sunday. Good luck against Namibia and also Kenya the week that follows. -Wise Owl, Harare.

Caps United should emulate from what De-mbare is doing. I don’t remember somebody from Caps or Bosso coaching Dynamos. We want someone who is young, green and white, not Jostein Mathuthu, Luke or Bambo. Mapeza and Chitembwe are there. Ntini should return. Phiri and Jere should stop interfering with the technical department or else Division 1 is waiting for us. -BaTadi, Glen Norah.

Len Barnes Memorial Tournament
Tadiwa Gatsi, the winner of the boys’ u/8 knocks down Adam Rawraway of Cape Town to win gold in the 2007 Len Barnes Memorial Tournament.
Preparations for Karate tournament intensify
BY GRACE CHIRUMANZU
HARARE – THE Kyokushin Karate Union of Zimbabwe has stepped up preparations for the Juniors’ annual Len Barnes Memorial Tournament, set for South Africa’s port city of Cape Town, in two weeks’ time.
The tournament will feature juniors and colts (6-18years) from Swaziland, Zimbabwe and the hosts as they exchange aggressive kicks and feast fights in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the death of a great master, Shihan (Master) Len Barnes.
Shihan Barnes, dubbed the father of Karate’ died in 2003 and is remembered for his great works in the martial art sport in South Africa.
The Zimbabwe junior fighters proved a force to reckon with in this world of full contact karate when they scooped several medals in last year’s edition of the competition at the traditional venue, with a remarkable clean sweep in the U/8 boys category.
Tadiwa Gatsi, Stephen Mulembasoja and Brett Kondowe were awarded with the gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.
It was a memorable experience not only to the fighters but to the South Africa-based, African Kyokushin Karate chairman, Shihan Bas Van Stenis.
To see these young kids in action was amazing, they copy their instructors to the tee! First place Tafadzwa Mushunje from Zimbabwe, looked like a miniature Sempai Samson Muripo, commented Shihan Bas.
A third dan black belt, Sempai (teacher) Muripo expects the Zimbabwe national team to gain experience from this year’s edition of the competitive showpiece.
This is of no doubt, the event that will be a big one and we hope Zimbabwe will impress as always the norm. It is my wish that all junior students attend, though it appears a nightmare with the current economic challenges at home. This can be a dream come true to most of them if the cooperate world intervene and make the young fighters fly the national flag high,’ he said.
