PRINCE EDWARD - Zimbabwe's preparations for the Coca-Cola Craven Week Schools' rugby tournament are set to gather pace June 26, with the national Under-18 side beginning their full training camp at Prince Edward.

The annual Craven Week schools rugby showdown will be staged in Pretoria, from July 6-12, featuring the hosts’ 20 provinces and invited sides from Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The U/18 select was picked at Peterhouse College.

Their first match is scheduled against Boarder, on the second day of the competition, as their opponents seek to make a revenge of a humiliating 7-25 defeat at the hands of the history making Zimbabwe’s schools select side, last year.

Each of the teams will play three matches, with the fixtures for the other two days yet to be scheduled.

“They are a good side with a lot of potential. Last year’s team had six players from the Young Sables side, which participated at the World Cup in Ireland, the previous year. We have only one player from last year’s team but the boys are very much commited and talented. I believe they have what it takes to maintain the standards set by their countrymen,” Zimbabwe schools team, head coach, Godwin Murambiwa said.

A team of 22 players and three officials will leave the country for the tournament on July 6.

Squad: Brendon Chapman (captain), Tapiwa Rabwi, Marco Mama, Takudzwa Mandiwanza (Peterhouse), Michael Gwinyai, Tawanda Nguni, Zerubabel Makomva, Takudzwa Mutataguta (St Georges), Joshua Silcock, Michael Vickery (St Johns), Mngobi Dhlamini, Enyioma Emwerem (CBC).

Backs: Graham Kaulback, Jonathan McWade, Matthew Swales, Melusi Mlalazi (St Johns), Manyi Simwinga, Conrad Tshuma (Falcon), Garikayi Magwenzi, Charles Chijiji (PE), Thomas Nelson (Peterhouse), Tafadzwa Chitokwindo (Kyle).
