MUSINA - MDC acting president, Hon. Thokozani Khupe, today toured Musina border town in South Africa to assess the cholera situation as hundreds of affected Zimbabwe are crossing the border to South Africa to seek medication.

The cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe has reached unprecedented levels and yesterday, while touring Harare’s high density suburbs of Mbare and Budiriro, Hon. Khupe called for urgent international food and medical assistance as the country was failing to cope with the outbreak.
During the South African tour, the acting president was accompanied by the MDC health committee consisting of the secretary for health, Senator Henry Madzorera and Hon. Blessing Chebundo.
The Acting President has since called on Zanu PF to declare the cholera epidemic to be declared a national disaster. Cholera is believed to have killed over 800 people since its outbreak last month.
An open space in Musina has been cleared to cater for the quarantined thousands of Zimbabweans who are seeking medical attention in that country.
In Musina, Hon. Khupe told the patients that the MDC would appeal to the international community to assist in ending the epidemic.
The patients told the acting president of harrowing tales of their failure to get medical attention in Zimbabwe due to the strike by nurses and doctors and shortages of drugs.
