At the end of its work, the FIFPRo general assembly endorsed a number of important principles for African football and its footballers, FIFPRO Africa Division spokesperson Elvis Sekgobela told The Zimbabwean on Sunday in Johannesburg last Wednesday.
At its meeting in South Africa on Wednesday FIFPRo celebrated the unity of the Africa Division, made up of seven players associations and three associations Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe that had been invited to the meeting and are expected to soon become full FIFPRO members.
This unity has a positive impact on the African players all together who, from the most famous one to the most anonymous, have shown their support to it, said Sekgobela.
He added: In the same vein, the general assembly acknowledged the progress which has been made by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Ghana regarding the development and the recognition of their players associations. It hopes that the message which was understood by the football associations of DR Congo, Ivory Coast and Ghana will be heard everywhere.
FIFPro currently represents professional football players from 42 national players’ associations across the world.
Membership to the organization would help secure rights of Zimbabwean players especially those plying their trade in foreign countries where a lack of detailed knowledge of contract law and regulations there has often resulted in some players being victimised by unscrupulous club officials and player agents.
