The consignment included 30 blankets, bandages, drugs, detergents and soap which will be channelled to the 14-bed maternity ward. The church also painted and cleaned the dilapidated complex.
The clinic ,which ceased operations in October last year due to a mass exodus of qualified staff, is set to be reopened in September this year following the renovations and drug supply improvement by donors.
Director for the Public Affairs for the Church of Latter day Saints, Fortunate Chitiyo, said the donations and the uplifting of the clinic was part of their churchs social responsibility.
Chitiyo said the exercise was part of the Pan African Mormon Helping Hand Day where the church united in meaningful service to help their respective communities.
We encourage people to do the same kind of projects for their communities, said Chitiyo.
The director also said that they had approached the mayor and expressed their willingness to assist the council.
He was very grateful for our programmes and asked us if we could help refurbish the poly clinic, said Chitiyo.
The Church President for Mutare District challenged people to take responsibility for improving their communities.
The church should lead by example; we should not preach what we dont do. Our members comes from the community and we have seen it fit to plough back, he said
The City of Mutare mayor, Brian James, expressed his gratitude to the church for their service saying it would go a long way in improving the health service delivery in the town.
The council has also set aside some funds to compliment this donation. We really thank them for filing this gap as the council gears up to capacitate itself, said James.
