Although the Harare Basketball League is off-season the two Zimbabwean representatives in the regional championships JBC and Varsity Leopards are not worried about lack of game time.
We have been preparing for the tournament for the past two months. The players are in form and lack of game time is not something that would affect us. The only thing that may affect us is that we dont have enough information on our opponents, Masenda said.
The two Mozambican sides as well as the Angolans may have advantage over us in height and experience in this tournament. It is our first time as Varsity Leopards to perform at the regional championships, we have qualified before but we have never got a chance to participate. We hope to showcase our talent.
JBC coach Addison Chiware is confident that his team will put up a sterling performance in the five-day tournament after taking part in last years edition of the competition.
They have a bit of experience at this level of the competition, Im sure this time they will not be affected by any stage-fright, said Chiware.
Six teams, including two each from the hosts, Angola and Mozambique and one each from South Africa and Zambia, are expected to battle for honours in Harare.
Meanwhile, JBC guard Eric Banda has become the first Zimbabwean to play the game professionally after signing a contract with Botswana side Masaquen to compete in the prestigious, Vodacom Basketball League.
