Dynamos hitman Cuthbert Malajila wept uncontrollably after the match after his team failed to break a three-year premiership jinx against perennial rivals at Rufaro Stadium Saturday.
The Glamour Boys have not beaten CAPS United since 2007 and the players had every reason to shed tears after the match.
The players slumped to the turf soon after referee Kenny Marange blew the final whistle while Malajila sobbed as he lay on the turf.
Dynamos collected a point after the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate taking their points tally to 47 points from 23 matches and are still at the summit of the premiership. Tailing them are Gunners, who took their points tally to
46 from 24 matches after beating Eagles 2-1 at Gwanzura Stadium on Sunday.
Malajila, who is aiming for the Golden Boot award suffered a double heartbreak as he failed to score on Sunday while leading sniper Norman Maroto was on target at Gwanzura. Maroto has netted 15 goals while Malajila is sitting on 13 goals. He watched in horror as one of his shot grazed against the bar.
He was so unfortunate as this could have seen him add his goal tally to 14 goals.
The First Family’s son – Robert Mugabe junior attended the high profile match and sat in the VIP enclosure. Mugabe Jnr is becoming a regular at Caps United matches and on Saturday he made sure he did not miss the mother of all battles – the great city derby.
And the members of the first family must have been happy that their team maintained their dominance over their bitter rivals.
This season Dynamos have failed to beat CAPS United falling 2-0 in the reverse fixture following two struck goals by striker Nyasha Mushweki. CAPS United also beat their rivals to the Nestle Charity Shield this season with Leonard Tsipa scoring the priceless winning goal in the 2-1 win after extra time.
And, Malajila who looked dejected and down cast after the match was not willing to say much. “It’s so disappointing. We could have won the match,”
he said as he walked briskly across the field before disappearing into the dressing room.
