The human immune system and human anatomy;
HIV pathogenesis and viral life cycle;
HIV replication and progression;
Opportunistic infections;
HIV and TB;
Background to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and PMTCT;
HIV and human rights
Course objectives: Equip participants with basic knowledge on HIV and AIDS, related opportunistic infection, treatment and management.

Ethical considerations in research;
Background to qualitative research;
Qualitative research methods;
Generating and analysing research data
Background to quantitative research;
Generating and analysing quantitative data using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS);
Developing research proposals/evaluation or tender document
Report writing
Course objectives: Equip participants with research, monitoring and evaluation and data analysis techniques, knowledge and skills.

Course content:
Prevention of infection and re-infection
HIV and nutrition
Psychosocial support
Management and treatment of opportunistic infections
Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT)

Palliative care
Course objectives: Equip participants with knowledge and skills on preventing HIV infection and managing conditions and symptoms associated with HIV & AIDS
