Wits, popularly known as the Clever Boys, has since signed Democratic Republic of Congo eccentric goalie Francis Chansa to strengthen its goalkeeping department. Wits chief executive Stan Whiting confirmed the development in a statement from Johannesburg.
“Energy will be out for almost the whole season and we needed to have another experienced goalkeeper to cover for the young Dareen Keet, he said adding that they are happy to have an experienced keeper in their camp during the hectic season ahead. ?”You don’t take chances when you will be playing two games every week. You need to have as many good players as you can. The team is also mixing experience with youth which is really paying off. We want to finish the League much better than we did last season,” Whiting added.
South African Premiership teams fixtures for the 2009-10 season are congested after the season was compressed to make enough room for the football World Cup tournament the country is hosting next year. The agile Murambadoro was Wits most impressive player last season when his exploits between the posts culminated in him being voted the clubs Players Player of the Season.
The Gokwe-born former CAPS United shot-stopper also was in the running for the ABSA Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season, an accolade that was eventually went to Free State Stars goal-minder Kennedy Mweene.
