Pompey seek FIFA help in Bhasera deadlock

onismor_bhaseraJOHANNESBURG -- English Premiership club Portsmouth said last week that it had asked the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to intervene to break a deadlock with Kaizer Chiefs over Zimbabwe defender Onismor Bhaseras stalled move to England. Portsmouth, which has already secured a work permit for Bhasera, rejected claims by Chiefs that financial problems at the English club were holding back the transfer deal.

The situation is that Onismor believes he is a free agent and Kaizer Chiefs say he is not, so we have asked Fifa to look into it to enable us to progress with the move, the club said in a statement on its website.

We want the player to sign for Pompey (Portsmouth), but he can only do so once we know the true nature of his registration. This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with finance and to suggest such is misguided and inaccurate, the statement read.? ?

Kaizer Chiefs had revealed a fortnight ago that delays to conclude Bhaseras move to the English Premiership was because Portsmouth had financial problems and could not afford to pay for the services of the Zimbabwean leftback.

Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung maintained that the move was in doubt because of Portsmouth s alleged financial woes. They cant afford to pay us, he told media in Johannesburg .

If the move materialises, Bhasera would become the second Zimbabwean player in the English elite league after national team captain Benjani Mwaruwari, who turns out for Manchester city.
