Nomatter Taremedzwa Mapungwana, 18, was initially told that she was unable to have surgery after tests showed that the growth was more serious than previously thought.

However, British doctor, Professor Hutchison, was able to operate and Tare was moved to Barts Hospital to recover.

Friends and family have expressed their relief that the girl is in the care of competent doctors. Betty Makoni, founder of the Girl Child Network, led fundraising efforts to cover the 10,000 needed for the treatment.
