Since 2000 Zimbabwe has been commemorating this global event and is proud of its impact and contribution to the national response to HIV and AIDS.
Officially opening the ceremony, the Minister of Health and Child welfare, Dr Henry Madzorera, said: “Our theme this year is Universal Access and Human rights. It is a wake up call to us as leaders to prioritize and scale up our efforts to meet the demands for the provision of anti-retroviral drugs. Although we are making inroads, the number of people awaiting treatment is very high.”
He admitted funding challenges had resulted in the near collapse of the national health delivery system, consequently compromising the peoples right to health. This was the inspiration behind the theme.
We are aware of the resource shortages that we face and shall therefore continue to engage our partners to mobilize resources to scale up our programmes, ” he said.
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights ( ZLHR ) partnered towards the design and
production of the theme logo.Post published in: Analysis
