Churl Schwartzel, Thomas Aiken, JBE Kruger and James Kamte will be competing for honours in the restored tournament that had seen its last kicks in 2001 due to the economic challenges the country faced. ICT Company and Africom are the sponsors behind the prestigious tournaments resurrection next April after a glamorous ceremony that announced the news at the Royal Harare Golf Club last week.
The showcase that will be sponsors to the tune of US$160 000 has attracted the interests of professionals such as Schwartzel, who has made a name on the European Tour. Schwartzel (25) won the Africa Open and the Johannesburg Open, both played last year in his home country, South Africa. He has since been awarded as the European Tour Golfer of the Month of January.
Ranked on number three on the Sunshine Tour, Thomas Aiken and JBE Kruger, together with Southern Africa Tours highest earning black golf professional, Kamte will be up for the challenge as well as Trevor Fisher Jnr.
The defending champion of the Zimbabwe Open in 2001 at Chapman Golf Club, Darren Fichardt, will also be in the challenge for the prestigious title after signing up for the title. Local big names on the Sunshine Tour, Tongoona Charamba and Marc Cayeux, will see to the field to prove a force to reckon with among the big names.
