FIFA warns of lottery scam

fifa_logoJOHANNESBURG - FIFA has warned the public to treat any correspondence concerning lottery draws, tenders or competitions with suspicion and extreme caution and has urged people not to provide any personal or financial details if requested to do so.

FIFA said they have been alerted to emails fraudulently claiming to be associated/linked with FIFA, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and/or Local Organising Committee informing recipients that they have been selected as prize winners in a lottery draw and have won substantial sums of money. “This correspondence has no connection with or authorisation from FIFA and is in no way related to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. All information received in South Africa should be forwarded to the South African Police Service”, said FIFA in a statement.

“We caution you to guard yourself against email scams and internet hoaxes which may falsely claim to be part of a FIFA lottery, prize draw or competition, need additional payment from you to guarantee tickets that you have won, or receive your personal information to secure tickets FIFA added.
