Gwaze wins Gaborone Open

robert_gwazeHARARE International Master Robert Gwaze (Pictured) has once again his supremacy in regional chess by winning the Gaborone Chess Open played at Livingstone Kolobeng College in Gaborone, Botswana.


Gwaze beat Zimbabwean compatriot Spencer Masango to second position at the tournament was played from April 9 to 11.

The mercurial Gwaze, who is also currently coaching the Botswana chess national team, drew his last round game against Maokofhi Notha of Botswana to emerge with an unassailable 6,5 points from seven rounds.

Masango was tied in second position with Notha and Barileng Gaealafswe with 6 points.

Other Zimbabwean players Lloyd Moyo and Elisha Chimbamu also gave a good account of themselves amassing 5 points out of seven games to finish in seventh position.

Meanwhile FIDE Master Rodwell Makoto and his team qualified to represent their club at the world clubs championships to be held in Dubai after a good outing in the African Club Championships.
