Bosso hope to find scoring touch in Zvishavane

BULAWAYO Former Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Highlanders march onto the Maglas Stadium turf in Zvishavane this afternoon hoping to find goals that will prove that they are championship contenders this season.

Bosso, the only side to have won four titles in a row in the history of the PSL, are currently in high spirits after they edged defending champions Gunners 1-0 at Barbourfields Stadium last Sunday. The Bulawayo giants will be looking for nothing short of victory against Premiership returnees Shabanie Mine who also want to make good the first half of their first season back in the PSL.

Highlanders had many fruitful visits to the asbestos mining town of Zvishavane during the Chinda Boys first stint in the topflight league and they would want that to continue today, as they bid to reclaim the league crown they lost to Dynamos in 2007 and has since become a preserve of Harare clubs. Bosso, who have won two and lost one of their three league games so far in the season, will look to newboy Simbarashe Gate whose solitary strike won them the day against Gunners, to lead their search for goals.

Gate will be assisted by speedy winger Joel Luphahla, Abraham Mbaiwa, Chipo Tsodzo and Protasho Kabwe, as they seek to convert into goals the many chances they have missed in their previous games, especially their 1-0 loss to arc-rivals Dynamos two weeks ago which they dominated for the greater part of then match. Although they won against Gunners, Bosso still wasted several chances in their game last Sunday and will need to sharpen their strike force to win matches. Coach Mohamed Fathi confirmed this week that the Bulawayo giants need to convert more chances if they are to wrestle the championship from Harare clubs.

We need to score more than we miss and that is what we have been working on at training. We are playing well and creating a lot of chances which we will come good to convert, said the Egyptian. Bosso beat Premiership newcomers Black Mambas 2-1 in their first home assignment before falling 0-1 to perennial rivals Dynamos in Harare in a midweek fixture.

Coming from Division One, the John Phiri-coached Shabanie Mine have done fairly well so far, beating Bantu Rovers 2-1 at Barbourfields Stadium in their first game before losing 2-1 to Gunners at Maglas Stadium.

Last Saturday, the asbestos miners shared the spoils with Chitungwiza-based Eagles after a 1-1 scoreline at Maronderas Rudhaka Stadium. Dynamos and CAPS United will be involved in continental assignments at the weekend and have had their local league matches postponed to midweek next week. CAPS United will play Gunners on Wednesday at Rufaro Stadium while Dynamos will be at the same venue with Lengthens Thursday.
