The opening ceremony will be preceded by a test event dubbed the Bafana Bafana concert to take place on 25 May, a day that also marks the commemoration of Africa Day.
Local Organising Committee member and head of the tournaments legacy projects, Greg Fredericks, said the concert will feature only South African based artists. Only people wearing Bafana jerseys will be allowed into the venue, which is yet to be confirmed.
It is going to be a yellow party and its going to be big, we will use it to show case our South Africa talent while at the same time rally behind Bafana Bafana, said Fredericks.
He was briefing the committee on the LOCs state of readiness ahead of the World Cup kickoff.
Fredericks said LOC had received many praises following the successful opening ceremony of the Confederations Cup in June last year.
At least 700 police officers, supported by other members of law enforcement agencies will be visible in and around the stadium in each of the matches to be played during the 30-day sporting extravaganza.
