Grassroots to represent in Hope Festival

JOHANNESBURG Grassroots soccer will represent Zimbabwe in the forthcoming Football for Hope Festival, to be played in Johannesburg just before the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The festival, to run on June 4 -10, will be held at Number 3 Square in Johannesburgs sprawling suburb of Alexandra, and FIFA announced at the weekend that the event would be inaugurated in an official ceremony at the same venue Thursday morning. The festival is meant to bring together teams that use soccer to address various social shortcomings like war, poverty, ethnic violence and environmental pollution, and Grassroots soccer is one such organisation in Zimbabwe, said a FIFA official.

In fact, they will be the only Zimbabwean representatives in the event, but they will bring teams in various categories to play in the tournament, where everyone will emerge a winner. There will be a total of 32 taking part in the festival, to be jointly organised by the host city of Johannesburg and FIFA.
