Media accredited for FIFA show

JOHANNESBURG Control Room, the executive producers of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert, have begun accrediting media to cover the musical show.

The show, expected to be attended by 30 000 people, is slated for Orlando stadium, Soweto, on June 10, the eve of the official opening of the worlds biggest soccer showcase. FIFA announced in its media channel late on Tuesday that its musical partner had begun accrediting both South African-based and international media interested in covering the show, dubbed the biggest ever musical show to be staged on African soil. Control Room is managing all media accreditation for the concert on 10 June 2010 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto/Johannesburg, said FIFA in a statement released Tuesday.

Adding that media accreditation for the event was limited, FIFA advised media interested to cover the event to submit an email with name and function of staff. Journalists were also requested to provide names of their media organisation and contact information to the media officers by May 17. The concert will feature among others, The Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Alicia Keys, John Legend, will be held before a crowd of 30 000 people at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, on June 10. The show will feature performances from major international musicians and African artists, as well as appearances by football legends past and present and celebrities from other fields.

Besides taking place in front of a capacity stadium audience of 30 000, the concert will also be broadcast to hundreds of millions more worldwide. FIFA selected Emmy Award-winning producer Kevin Wall and his company Control Room to organise and produce the concert, judging by the companys past success of having masterminded some of the worlds biggest and most complex events, such as Live Earth 2007, which featured 150 artists performing on seven continents over the course of 24 hours to raise awareness of climate change.

All net proceeds from the concert will be donated to 20 Centres for 2010, the Official Campaign of the 2010 World Cup, in a campaign aimed at achieving positive social change through football by building 20 centres across Africa offering education and healthcare services, as well as football training to disadvantaged communities.
