“As World Cup fever mounts, we are urging all ticket holders to start planning their trips to the Stadium,” said Rehana Moosajee, MMC for Transport at the City of Johannesburg in an interview.
There will be road closures around the stadiums and no parking will be allowed in the stadium environs. We are encouraging ticket holders to use public transport such as Rea Vaya or Metrorail or to use Park and Walks and Park and Rides. Spectators who want to utilise Park and Walks and Park and Rides to get to matches are urged to buy their tickets in advance. No tickets will be for sale at the designated Park and Ride or Park and Walk venues, so only people with a parking ticket will be allowed entry. All these sites will be identifiable by signage.
Moosajee said there would be security guards contracted to look after these vehicles while the Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD), as well as South African Police Service, would be deployed to look after the safety of spectators walking or riding to the stadiums. The Park and Ride and Park and Walk facilities were introduced in order to minimize traffic congestion at World Cup match stadiums.
