Mutanga and Zhou storm to continental victory

Tinashe Mutanga, one of the WWS Academy athletes, stormed to defend his selection by winning two Gold medals at the continental level in Morocco this week.

Female athlete Sithulisiwe Zhou made the finals in her event too.

Due to the fact that Singapore will be holding the first Youth Olympic games in history it was important to have representation at the first Olympics.

Mutanga from Zimbabwe is the only athlete selected from Africa he ran the fastest 100 m time this year in Africa for any youth at 10,68s.

It is very intimidating because I have not had so much attention on me before but it is good to know the world recognises our accomplishments. I will do my family, my club WWS and my country proud, said Mutanga.

The President of NAAZ said: I am equally convinced that Tinashe and Sithulisiwe are the best in terms of selection and development. We are proud of their level. Tinashe in particular has handled the pressure well because he had a chance to compete in the professional league at the Penn relays which made his competing at these levels much easier to adapt to.
