The nomadic Chunga who captured his first league title with Gunners last term, is using basically the same pool of players who appeared to struggle under coach Lloyd Chitembwe who eventually quit his post following a spate of dreadful results.

Chunga is also giving a run to some of the players who were ignored by Chitembwe and it appears to be working wonders for him as he remains unbeaten since his return to CAPS United three weeks ago.

Bambo as he is affectionately known in football circles, has notched up nine points from three games and is in the running for two cup finals the ZAOGA Jubilee Charity Shield and the BancABCSupr8 Cup. But it is their newly found form that has become the talking point and Chunga will be looking to add Highlanders to their list of victims this afternoon.

The former Dynamos and Warriors star has led CAPS to three consecutive league victories since taking over as coach of a Makepekepe side that had before his arrival looked at sea in the league. CAPS United are now in fifth position with 25 points and are gradually forcing their way back into contention for the title. But Chunga, renowned for his witty remarks, however, remains modest even in his moment of triumph.

“We have spoken on the need to collect maximum points and this is what is important. As for the cup game against Highlanders, we will field the team that we think will give us a good result because the idea is to continue winning. It gives players confidence,” said Chunga.

Chunga was roped in as coach to save a CAPS that had looked destined for endless heartache this season after following a string of poor results that had strained relations between former coach Chitembwe and supporters. Chitembwe had insisted the poor results were unavoidable because the team was rebuilding following the departure of key players including utility player Method Mwanjali, Lionel Mtziwa, Oscar Machapa, Tafadzwa Rusike, Nyasha Mushekwi and Khama Billiart who joined the South African premiership. But Chunga appears to have transformed the team’s fortunes in a just a few days in charge.
