Dynamos disappointing defeat

dembare_logoHARARE - The class of 2010, led by coach Elvis Chiweshe, ended the CAF Champions League as worst team to represent Dynamos in the lucrative competition.

Dynamos were beaten 1-0 by Tunisia giants Esperance at Rufaro on Saturday to bow out of the tournament on a disappointing note. The Glamour Boys finished this years campaign at the bottom of the four-team log table with only three points and are guaranteed US$400 000. Esperance topped Group A and qualified for the semi-finals with 13 points ahead of DRCs TP Mazembe who finished on 11 points but still qualified for the last four while Setif finished on six points.

This campaign is Dynamos worst performance in the CAF Champions League group stages. Dynamos have been in the mini-league stage of the competition on four occasions and twice they went beyond the group stage of the competition while in 1999- they finished third in a group topped by Esperance.

While that DeMbare class of 99 failed to qualify for the semi-final, they managed to garner six points and scored nine goals in the process. This time around Chiweshes men found the back of the net just twice, courtesy of Wonder Sithole and Thabani Kamusoko throughout the campaign.

At the back Dynamos was also porous and ended the campaign this year having conceded a massive nine goals. Even Monomotapa who represented Zimbabwe last year in the same competition bowed out in the group stages with their heads held up high. Monoz finished their campaign with six points.

Tineyi Hwande said: “This team was very ordinary. We have not played so bad since we played in this competition. This is the worst team to represent Dynamos in this competition and Chiweshe has to take the flak,” he said.
