BCC hails government malaria efforts

The Bulawayo City Council has complimented government efforts in its bid to curb malaria. The local authority's public relations officer, Nesisa Mpofu, said the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare supported the programme by providing malaria treatment drugs which are used to treat all reported malaria cases.

The Council has since started the spraying programme and is embarking on Health education awareness campaigns so that people know all the preventive measures against malaria.

The council also carries out indoor residual spraying which is usually done on request and on cost recovery basis. At the moment the council has enough chemical stocks to use in the malaria control programme.

Bulawayo has been recording few malaria cases every year.

The spraying programme is also being carried out in the 47 malaria prone districts in the country and the whole programme will be complete by end of November before the rains intensify as some places have poor road networks.
