Formers Caps player rescued from SA floods

JOHANNESBURG Zimbabwean striker Kingston Nkatha was among hundreds of people rescued by members of the South African National Defence Forces (SANDF) from floodwaters that affected parts of South Africa last week.

Nkathas South African club, Free State Stars, confirmed that the free-scoring striker was among three Ea Lla Koto players that were rescued by members of the SANDF last Wednesday. Nkatha was marooned in his flat in Bethlehem with two of his teammates – Thamane Motaung, Goodman Sauhatsi and a Stars kit manager.

Floods hit the area in which they live and left them marooned until they were rescued by the members of the South African National Defence Force, said Free State Stars spokesman Rantsi Mokoena. Their flat was severely damaged by the heavy flood waters, but we are happy that the four came out, he added.

SANDF members used a grader and boat in rescuing the four, who were all fortunate not to sustain any injuries. Nkatha said: Besides my property, all is well and I am grateful to God and the SANDF for saving us, said the player, who turned out for Caps FC in Zimbabwe before leaving to join Stars in 2007.
