Gwekwerere crossed the great divide to join Caps United, with the striker wining himself a legion of enemies among the Dynamos supporters who once idolised him. Gwekwereres recent claims that that he was happier at Caps United than he was at DeMbare will ensure he receives a hostile reception from the noisy Vietnam stand.
While playing for Dynamos, Gwekwerere had a good scoring record against his new employer and it remains to be seen whether he will produce the same form when turning out for CAPS today in his first competitive match for the club. It, however, seems he has already found top form that made him a hit at Dynamos after he scored a brace when his new team crushed a Mutare select side a week ago in their first pre-season friendly match.
“You know I am now playing for CAPS United and I have to please my new employers by at least scoring and I will be happy if we win this game,” Gwekwerere told The Zimbabwean on Sunday. “I know there is likely to be a hostile reception for me from some fans because I left them when they thought I should have stayed but football is all about movement of players. I still love Dynamos but in this job you have to perform for your club and I expect to do the same here at CAPS United, said the former Jomo Cosmos and Moroka Swallows striker.
The last time the two teams met in the BancABC Sup8r Cup Dynamos beat CAPS United 3-2 in a five goal thriller at the National Sports Stadium last year.
