Zhuwawo, Nyasango off to Korea

athleticsHARARE - Long distance runners Wirimai Zhuwawo and Cuthbert Nyasango have made the final cut for the World Championships scheduled for South Korea in August.

The seasoned Nyasango made it on the back of his performance last year when he clocked 2 hours 12 minutes and 40 seconds at the Boston Marathon in the US while Zhuwawo made the cut after his strong showing at the Hainan Danzou 42 km marathon in China last year, where he romped home in 2 hours 12 minutes and 38 seconds.

“We have already started working on this competition. We want to avoid last year year’s situation, which saw our athletes being overlooked for the event in Kenya. Nyasango and Zhuwawo have already made the cut based on their performance last year and in the women’s category two slots are still up for grabs,” said National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) secretary general, David Leboho. His association would approach government through the sports commission to seek funding for the event.
