Pakistan tour marks test return to test status

Johannesburg -The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the ongoing International cricket World Cup semifinalists will tour Zimbabwe in August for a number of Test and One Day International, a development that will see the Southern African team return to Test status.

PCB said in a statement it would play three ODIs and two Test matches in games that are likely to be played in Harare and Bulawayo. Zimbabwe, which ended up without a win against the top nations but managed two against Ireland and Kenya in the 2011 World Cup, have not played a Test match since early 2006 when Zimbabwe Cricket voluntarily suspended its Test status.

International Cricket Council granted them the status in 1992. Zimbabwe is, at a date yet to be set, likely to tour Bangladesh in August this year to play a Test match. Coach Alan Butcher said Saturday that a return to Test cricket after six years away from the circuit will be “massive” for Zimbabwe , as they prepare to end their exile in August. Last week, international media quoted Zimbabwe coach, Alan Butcher as expressing excitement at the teams return to Test Cricket.

Our return to Test cricket is happening in August. That is going to be a massive thing for Zimbabwe . No doubt you might be wondering if we are going to be up for the challenge and the answer to that, honestly, is probably ‘no.
