Lloyd Mutasa’s men lost their opening two matches to Kiglon and Motor Action but recovered to beat Platinum Stars in their third league match. But they went on to share the spoils with bogey side Hwange at Rufaro following a 0-0 draw before settling for another goalless draw against bitter rivals Highlanders on Easter Monday. They are now on ninth position with five points from five matches. While it is too early to judge their pedigree to lift the domestic crown for the first time since Independence their revival has suffered a major dent.
Crucially, Dynamos have not scored since they beat money bags FC Platinum 2-0 in a midweek fixture at Rufaro three weeks ago. While their defence has been solid, their strike force is crying for a good finisher especially with new signings Rodrick Mutume and Patrick Khumbula struggling for form.
The lackluster show by Dynamos at this stage of the campaign has piled pressure on Mutasa whose job has become a source of a raging debate both in the press and in the stands. But the club bosses believe the former Dynamos midfielder should be given more time.
Club chairman Farai Munetsi said this week a draw against Highlanders was a fair result. “Highlanders are a good side and a draw against them is also a good result for us. Ofcourse we needed a win but you don’t always win. In a game of football. You win some and lose some and the coach should be given more time to build the team,” Munesti said. Dynamos are hoping to win their first league title since 2007 when they lifted the title under the guidance of David Mandigora.
Tomorrow Mutasa will be hoping to haul his team back into contention for the league title when his lads face Masvingo United in a Castle Larger Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro.
The Harare giants have alarming statistics at Rufaro which they had turned into their fortress. They have dropped eight out of 12 points at Rufaro and scoring just two league goals. They will be missing tireless midfielder Murape Murape after he was red carded for insulting referee Nkosana Nduna during their tension filled league tie against Highlanders last week, will be hoping to appease their hard to please fans with a victory over Yuna Yuna.
But then again Masvingo are one of the best performing teams under veteran coach Luke Masomere. Yuna Yuna are on fifth position on the league table with 9 points from five matches. They have won two and drawn three and will be hoping to collect maximum points against Dynamos. Meanwhile the first Zvishavane derby is set for Wednesday as FC Platinum play hosts to Shabanie Mine at Maglas.
