A group of the team’s fans chanted obscenities at the coach accusing him for the team’s lack-lustre show. But Chunga later told The Zimbabwean he was not going anywhere. “Let bygones be bygones,” said Chunga. “I don’t want to say much but what I can tell you is that I am here to do a good job for CAPS United and I will continue to work with the team and see how we can improve. So far I think there is now lack of that fighting spirit which was there when we started the season. It’s strange. I don’t know what has happened but we will work on the weak areas.”
The draw left CAPS United on second position with 10 points behind surprise leaders Chicken Inn who have 13 points.
Although CAPS United were the first to get off the blocks with a headed goal from Pride Tafirenyika on 38 minutes, former Dynamos and CAPS United striker Audience Rundofa broke the hearts of CAPS United with a late equaliser that ensured a share of the spoils MaKepekepe skipper and goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda has leapt to the defence of his coach, Chunga.
Sibanda, who kept the team in the game with some heroics between the sticks before he was substituted after he got injured after 40 minutes, said it was wrong to fault the coach at this stage of the campaign.
“I think it is very unfair for the supporters to behave like that. Its wrong to blame the coach at this stage of the campaign. Its just one defeat and supporters start to blame the coach. They should understand that this happens in football. Every team goes through a spell like this. The supporters should instead urge the team to raise their game. The effect of a behaviour like this is that it puts pressure on the team,” said Sibanda.
Chunga, who won the league title with Gunners in 2009, has been linked with cash-rich premiership debutantes FC Platinum following the death of Coach Benjamin Moyo who drowned in a swimming pool while in camp with his team last week. But Chunga insists that he is not going anywhere and would see through the project he started when he replaced Lloyd Chitembwe last term.
