I will walk in Janis footsteps – Takavadini

mdc_logoMUZEMBI-MREWA - I will walk in the footsteps of the slain MDC-T Senatorial Candidate for Mrewa, Shepherd Jani, until dictatorship falls, MDC-T Mrewa North District Youth Chairperson, Brighton Takavadini, told mourners at a memorial service held here last Sunday.

Addressing hundreds of people at the memorial service convened two years after Jani was abducted and assassinated by identified Zanu (PF) and state security agents, May 22, 2008 at Mrewa Centre, Takavadini said:

As if sensing his death was approaching, Jani reminded me that the oppressed people of Zimbabwe were at a cross-road and MDC-T activists had to fight dictatorship until democracy prevailed in the country. He pleaded with me in particular not to abandon the struggle whatever the consequences. In turn, I assured him I would run the course of the struggle for democracy until a new Zimbabwe is born. Today, I would like to re-affirm my unwavering fight against tyranny whatever the cost. I am prepared to lose my life for the just cause. Victory is certain and I can see democracy on the horizon, said the firebrand youth leader.

Takavadini, a victim of military torture, described the late Jani as a selfless fighter for equal rights. Jani lost his life championing a just cause for human rights and destruction of dictatorship of Zanu (PF).

A Local Non Governmental Organisation, Heal Zimbabwe, provided tombstones for Jani and his late wife, Elma, who was also buried at the Jani family grave yard in Rukodzi Village.
