Zimbabwe media, previously dominated by state-run institutions, now has three independent dailies in the streets, Daily News, Newsday and The Mail. Several other registered titles are yet to appear on market stalls.
The ZMC says as part of continuing reforms, it had registered seven more papers. Commission chairman Godfrey Majonga said the media body had registered three weeklies and four magazines. “The ZMC has accepted to grant registration certificates to three weeklies and four magzines,” Majonga said. “We are here to allow Zimbabweans access to media.”
Sources say among the publications is Supa Mandiwanzira’s The Patriot.
The southern African country, which had been in the grips of a decade long political and economic crisis until the formation of a unity government two years ago, still has no private radio or television station.
