Gunners fall on hard times

... team struggles to pay players
HARARE - Former champions Gunners have fallen on hard times amid reports that the team management is struggling to pay players salaries and allowances.

The situation according to senior players who spoke to The Zimbabwean this week is so bad that some key players are contemplating leaving the club. It is said that each player has been getting a paltry $15 after every game. A senior player who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity said they were only given $20 after their 2-1 defeat to Highlanders two weeks ago.

“It’s really bad.” said one of the players. “The situation has reached a stage where we are unable to pay rent and feed our families. When things get to this stage you think of another option. Right now there are a lot of things going through my mind and I am sure this is what is happening to most of the players.”Former Dynamos midfielder Ashley Rambanapasi, who had joined the 2009 champions after an unsuccessful tour to Cyprus last year, is also believed to be a frustrated man who is already club hunting.

Gunners president Cuthbert Chitima refused to talk about the issue, saying only they were sorting it out. Gunners, who won the league title for the first time in two years in the premiership under the guidance of Moses Chunga, are currently at the foot of the table with a paltry two points from six games. They have not won any match and have drawn just twice.
